On an average week basis, industry shipments of corrugated products rose 0.9 percent last month, the Fibre Box Association (FBA) reports. Last month had one less shipping day (21) than June 2006. So on an actual basis shipments fell 3.7 percent.

Turning to year to date numbers, shipping days were the same in both periods so that on an actual and an average week basis shipments through the first six months of this year fell 1.8 percent and stand at 195,417,600 billion sq ft.

When comparing June 2006 to last June, container board consumption fell 1.5 percent while year to date it fell 0.8 percent.

Container board inventory at corrugator plants fell 1.1 percent between the end of last May and the end of last June and now stands at 2,087,700 tons. Weeks of supply during this same period dropped 5.9 percent to 3.2, the FBA says.
