Last month, total U.S. containerboard production was 3.060 million tons, a 4.8 percent increase from June 2007, reports the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA). It also says that last month's linerboard operating rate was 101.6 percent, the medium operating rate was 96.1 percent, and the containerboard operating rate was 100 percent.

Containerboard produced for export stands at 283,000 short tons, the same as it was last June. Mill container board inventory fell 2.9 percent from last June's number to 272,000 short tons.

AF&PA data represents approximately 93 percent of the North American capacity for containerboard.
